Bedford Community Christmas Station (con't)

BCCS is housed in a building at 206 Washington Street in Bedford. It is divided into sections—infant clothing, girl's clothing, boy's clothing, teen clothing, gifts, toys, household items, and food. Each section is stocked with new items. Families who are accepted to shop at the Christmas Station receive a postcard telling them when to arrive for their shopping appointment. Upon arrival, they are assisted by volunteer escorts who help family members select clothing and gift items. Every family receives household items and a box of food.

In 2006, the first year of operation, the Christmas Station served 262 families—more than 800 individuals! It is anticipated that the Christmas Station will serve at least 400 families in 2007. Applications will be available in late August; applicants will be screened for eligibility in mid-October; the Station will be open for shoppers on December 6, 7, and 8.

Monetary donations are needed to purchase merchandise for the Station. Volunteers are needed to assist shoppers, restock shelves, and load vehicles as well as keep things neat during shopping days. Donations of items are greatly appreciated.

Contact Karen Hughes, 540.587.8990, ext. 101, if you would like to have a Board Member meet with your group to share additional information. You may also visit the website at www.bedfordchristmas.com.
