GA "Red Letter" Day (con't)
Finally, on February 24, at 8 a.m., GA's from Mentow (5), Quaker (15), and Mt. Olivet (30) gathered at Mt. Olivet for a light breakfast and devotions. We prayed for God to help us let our little lights shine every day so others can find Him through us. We also talked about the "red letters" in the Bible which are the words Jesus spoke and how important it is to share this good news with others. Everyday has the potential to be a Red Letter Day!
We headed to Virginia Tech with a caravan full of little smiling missionaries, approximately 100 New Testaments, 60 Invitation CDs by Rick Warren, boxes full of snacks, candy, red pens, calendars, stickers, notebook paper, tracts and literature—all labeled with a Bible verse or a "God Loves You." To be honest, we had so much stuff to give out that day we were already thinking ahead about where the leftovers would go. But, again, God is Amazing! Within three hours, our tables were bare and our hearts were full. I think we were all just amazed at God's faithfulness and goodness to us if we just simply obey and follow Him.
Watching those little GA's with their big smiles sharing boldly and without fear the love of God and the Good News of Jesus challenged even me that day. It seems so simple to just obey and follow Him, but how often we don't because the way just seems too hard.
What a wonderfully awesome day, filled with too many little miracles to mention them all, but I will close with this one. The week before we went to Tech the weather had been terribly windy and cold. It had also been snowing, but that Saturday was a beautiful, sunny 60-degree day in the middle of winter. Yes—God is Amazing, and He is still whispering, "there is work to be done!"
I am writing this article on the 17th of April—one day after the shootings at Virginia Tech where 33 students and faculty were killed, and I can't help but wonder if one or more of the lives taken that day could be in the arms of Jesus at this moment because of a little smiling missionary who was willing to share God's love!
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven."
—Matthew 5:16n
