Family Food Boxes for Iraq (con't)
On Tuesday, April 15, church representatives at our Executive Board meeting received detailed information about what to collect, the size box needed, how to pack it, and when to drop off filled boxes at Bedford Baptist.
After some confusion regarding the correct size box, the project took off—folk from churches all over the association were in and out of the office getting boxes to fill.
Volunteers from Bedford Baptist, Bethlehem, Mentow, Mount Zion, Quaker, Suck Spring, Timber Ridge, and Trinity served in shifts at the collection site.
By the end of the collection period, we had received 74 boxes from 13 SBA churches and one unknown lady who enlisted the aid of some Boy Scouts to transport a box from her car to Bedford's fellowship hall. Below is the final tally:
Church Number of Boxes
Bedford 19 1/2
Bethlehem 3
Flint Hill 3
Mentow 14 1/2
Mount Olivet $100.00
Mount Zion 3
Norwood 2
Quaker 1
Staunton 2
Suck Spring 16
Thaxton 3
Timber Ridge 1
Trinity 3
Walnut Grove 2
Unknown Lady 1
Ten boxes were taken by car to Richmond on May 13, and Trinity Church's utility trailer was used to take the remaining 64 to the Roanoke Valley Association Office where they were transported to Richmond along with boxes from Roanoke Valley and Henry County associations.
Thanks to all those who had a part in the success of this mission project—from the preschool child who provided a pound of rice to help his Sunday School class fill a box to the families and friends who joined together for the same purpose! What a heart-warming demonstration of Christian cooperation!
