We know that for missions-minded Christians nothing is more important than finding a need and meeting it. Mission Rita is an opportunity to fill the void that has been left as even federal aid is drawing to a close. Obviously anyone with a desire to come and serve can be put to good use, however, skilled and experienced laborers who would be willing and able to come would be a wonderful blessing and welcome relief. The kind of work most needed is house repair (especially roofing and carpentry), heavy yard work (stump removal, removal of hanging branches, landscaping), fence repair, cleaning out destroyed storage sheds, and other tasks that seem insurmountable for an elderly widow or a family with small children.

The goal of Mission Rita is to link the projects and materials that we already have access to, with the labor that your group can provide. Through our contacts with local ministries, organizations, and civic groups we can provide your group with all of the contacts necessary to plan an effective mission trip. We believe that as groups choose to serve, the cost of room and board while on mission should not be a hindrance. Therefore, East Texas Baptist Encampment is offering discounted rates for Mission Rita groups. We ask that you would share our vision for Mission Rita with the churches in your SBC Association. We have seen God do amazing things in the lives of those who had hardened their hearts to hope as a simple result of the compassionate heart of Christ's laborers who chose to sweat and serve alongside those less fortunate. Mission Rita will be a long-term opportunity and hopefully as groups form relationships will have the opportunity to make multiple trips to bring healing and restoration amidst the destruction brought by Hurricane Rita.
