Big Island Baptist Church News

  • God has called Rev. Bryon LePere to be our new pastor. Bryon is presently Associate Pastor at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Richmond. He will begin on Sunday, July 20. Bryon's wife, Annie, is an important part of his ministry. They have a son and are expecting their second child in August.
  • Rev. John Boyles will complete his interim on July 13.
  • The church observed Baptist Men's Day was June 15. The ladies had a delicious breakfast for the men. The men led our worship service, with guest speaker Mr. Bruce Weaver from The Kirk.
  • The "Country Cousins" Puppet Ministry visited 10 nursing homes for the quarter.
Forest is searching for a church secretary to work approximately 15 hours per week. To apply or for further details, call the church office at 434-525-4841.

Hunting Creek's recent Bike-a-Thon for St. Jude Hospital netted $2,491.00.

Mentow's pastor Tim Mathia graduated on May 31 from The Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. As a graduation gift, the church is paying for Tim and his family to attend the Ministers Family Retreat held annually at Oak Hill Academy.

Justin Wainscott, age 7, son of Ricky and Tina Wainscott, recently attained an almost perfect score in the Bible Drill on May 14 at Mount Zion. The event is conducted each year among Southern Baptist churches to foster knowledge and understanding of the Holy Bible among children and youth. Justin was presented a certificate, a medallion, and a Bibleman video. He is a second grade student at Montvale Elementary School and is the youngest participant to receive this honor. Janet Ross and Thelma Stanley are the church's Bible Drill leaders. Rev. Larry Ross is pastor. Mount Zion leads devotions and provides special music every 5th Sunday at Woodhaven Nursing Home in Montvale.

Rainbow Forest's choir and orchestra will present a night of worship, "Draw Me Nearer Once Again," on Sunday, August 17, at 6 p.m. Please join us as together we lift our praise.

On June 20-22, Walnut Grove and Radford teamed with Lawyers Missionary Baptist Church for a 3-day retreat at Lynchburg Juvenile Detention Center. Walnut Grove will conduct a neighbor-hood blitz on July 12, 2:00-4:00 p.m. There will be hotdogs, puppets, games, and freaky balloon hats. Come be a part!
