Etc., Etc., Etc. (con't)

The program ran from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and included a variety of local talent: Matt and Patti Stafford from Walnut Grove Baptist Church with their puppet ministry and Matt's amazing balloon creations; representatives from Liberty University's Youth Quest; the youth band from Rainbow Forest Baptist Church; and our dynamic guest speaker, Steve Witt, from West Salem Baptist Church. Because of the thunder and lightening, the program ended with a bang, literally!

Apple Pickin' Jamboree
Saturday, October 4, 2003, 8 a.m. to 12 noon

You can join hundreds of your neighbors in the greater Bedford, Lynchburg, and Roanoke areas to salvage thousands of pounds of perfectly edible apples to donate to local food banks and other feeding agencies such as the Salvation Army and Bedford Christian Ministries. The Apple Pickin' Jamboree is sponsored by the Bedford Rotary Club and the Society of St. Andrew's Gleaning Network. To participate, call 800-333-4597 or 434-299-5956. For more information, visit www.endhunger.org/apple.

Bedford Christian Free Clinic

The Bedford Christian Free Clinic has been serving the indigent of Bedford County now for over 11 years. The patients are those who have "fallen through the cracks," so to speak. They don't have medical insurance and are not eligible for Medicare/Medicaid or any other government assistance regarding their medical care. The clinic assists in short term health care and has a pharmacy on site to further assist those who are in need. It also offers patient referrals on an as needed basis as well as short-term psychiatric care. As with most non-profit charitable organizations, the clinic is feeling the crunch of a slow economy. In finalizing budgets for 2004, I would encourage churches to perhaps consider the clinic as a part of missions giving. To hear what the Clinic has accomplished this year, you're invited to attend the annual meeting at the Bedford Central Library Community Room on Monday, September 8, 7 p.m.
