River Rock Update (con't)
This month please read prayerfully and attentively the following article that outlines how God uses River Rock beyond the confines of Sunday morning services. If God speaks to you about becoming involved in some form or fashion in this new work, please call either Marc or the Association office.
Mission Church Update
"This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine. This little light of mine, I'm going to let it…." We sat around the table in a local Mexican restaurant singing this song to a 6'8'' professional baseball player. This year God gave me the privilege of ministering as Chaplain to the Lynchburg Hillcat baseball team. A highlight for me was the "spiritual training" time I was able to spend with a few of the guys each week. Our program was quite simple—read a chapter a day from the Bible, memorize one verse/section each week, meet on Fridays to discuss how God spoke to each of us through His Word. One Friday, Nate shared how God spoke to him about shining his light in professional baseball. He said it reminded him of a song he learned in Awanas: "This Little Light of Mine." Thomas, a new believer, had never heard the song—so we sang it to him. I'm sure to others in the restaurant it was quite an oddity to hear two grown men singing a children's song to a big, 6'8" man! What a joy it was for me to share God's Truth with a few guys who were truly hungering and thirsting for righteousness.
At the last regular season home game I asked one of these guys to share his testimony with our church family after the game. This new believer of three weeks was very eager to share how God has impacted his life. Armed with 3 pages of notes and much prayer, he poured his heart out to a few families after the game. This unforgettable night was highlighted by a response Brady had to the question, "What has been your most memorable game in your baseball career?" Without hesitating, Brady responded that it was the first game he pitched as a new Christian. In his words: "After pitching a good game, I walked off the field as the crowd was cheering. And for the first time in my life I looked up to God and gave Him the glory. What an awesome feeling!"
Thank you so much to the churches in Strawberry Baptist Association that support the ministry of River Rock Church, enabling us to minister to moms and dads, grandparents, singles, young couples, widows, handicapped people, and professional baseball players.
The faithful support of friends like you enables me to focus on the ministry of River Rock for 1-2 days each week. What a blessing!
The other days of the week I invest my time in a maintenance business we have started. So often I experience God's Divine Appointments as I pray with customers or encourage them with God's Truth.
By God's grace, we continue to experience His Hand in the ministry of River Rock Church. It is an exciting privilege to be a part of His Divine work.
A few prayer requests would include:
- That our church family would have a growing passion for prayer.
- That we would have ears to hear His still, small voice when He says, "THIS is the way, walk in it."
- For the land owners of the Wyndhurst Community to see the need and have the desire to be a part of establishing a "House of Prayer" in this community.
- Spiritual protection from the enemy, the father of lies.
Thank-you a hundred times over for your faithful support and prayers,
The River Rock Family
