A Covenant for Change (con't)

In 1999, following the comprehensive self-study, the Strawberry Baptist Association concluded that “we value supportive ministry to the churches, cooperation and involvement in local and global missions, each church in its uniqueness, flexibility to meet changing needs, community among the churches, and assisting churches in spiritual and numerical growth.” That’s not a bad place to start from, but someone must put feet to this statement.

Stop blaming others for what hasn’t been done or can’t be done, and just behave as Christ commands. The more we wander in circles, the less we are a sweet fragrance to God. Don’t be fooled. “My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.”—1 John 3:18-23. A bit further along, the Word also says in chapter 4, “If someone says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.

At this point in the message it is traditional to insert the invitation. How about picking up the phone or sending an e-mail to those individuals who have been on your minds through the reading of this article, and determine when it is most convenient to come together to allow God to turn this thing around. Hanging in the balance are tens of thousands of souls in this immediate area waiting for you to make things right.
