As you already know, the Strawberry Baptist Association accepted two international mission opportunities for the year 2002. The first is to Brazil on March 15-26. The second is to Slovakia on August 2-11.
The Slovakia response has been tremendous, and it appears that the team is already assembled. The 4-6 individuals needed to teach English have stepped forward, and we feel we are in good shape for the August trip. |
Have you visited the Strawberry Baptist Association Website yet? If not, please take the time to become familiar with it. You will find lots of important and useful information, and we update our site almost daily, so the latest news is always online.
You’ll find one page dedicated to special prayer needs around the block and around the world. Another page provides church address and phone info as well as an Internet link to the church’s Website, if they have one.

The permanent part-time worker
This individual works year round with the teenagers and receives regular compensation for his efforts. Occasionally it is possible to find a bi-vocational worker who can dedicate his free time to the local church youth ministry. This paid worker is more than a volunteer with a more formal relationship with the church and the young people.

Mrs. Rebekah Overstreet, WMU Director 1813 Oakwood St., Bedford 24523 Phone: 540-586-2956 Women on Mission: Radford will lead weekly devotionals at Oakwood Manor for January, February, and March. Bethlehem will host the January birthday party for residents of Bedford County Nursing Home; Mount Olivet will host it in February. The annual training for church WMU leaders will take place on Saturday, April 13, at a local church. The retreat scheduled for April 12-13 at Eagle Eyrie has been canceled since there was no response from anyone on how they felt about the cost of $68.50. Next year we will do a better job and get off to a good start now that we know what is involved. I could use some creative ideas on how to make the annual training interesting and meet everyone's needs.

At the request of J. P. Smith and on the recommendation of Steve Manuel, the Baptist General Association of Virginia recently approved a $3,000 grant for the support and expansion of the ministries of the Bedford Jail Ministry. On receiving the check the day before Thanksgiving, Chaplain Travis Witt expressed gratitude for the early Thanksgiving blessing and indicated a portion of the money would be used to provide inmates with stamps and Christmas cards to be mailed to family members. The grant was made possible by the generous support of many of our churches and their members through the Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions.
Under the Lordship of Christ, to equip, support, and involve our family of churches in meeting the spiritual and physical needs of a changing community and world. |
Please have items for the February newsletter written and in the Association office by Thursday, January 25.
